Why?
Behavioural scientists need appropriate experimental tools and systems to disentangle complex behaviours. Even if there is already a large commercial offer as well as increasing number of open source systems, the current tools still remain limited in terms of experiments that can be implemented and particularly tedious for the experimenters as well as stressful for the mice due to the classic one-hour-a-day experiments.
How?
We have developed an ecological automatized operant conditioning chamber that would allow the implementation of any behavioural tasks for any animal model over weeks of continuous (24/24, 7/7) experiments. Our BEATBox is fully customizable (size of choice, removable panels and modules….).
What?
The animals are living in the operant chamber during the entire procedure that can last for weeks, allowing to perform complex behavioural procedures and the acquisition of massive number of data. The animals are self-engaging in the behavioural task and are barely handled by the experimenter. Thanks to our system, we can refine the behavioural protocols and reduce the number of animals needed by increasing the number of data per animal
